I am a wonder of creation.
I am round and warm and soft in a world that isn’t. I can inspire war, and peace, with a shimmy or a glance. I can read the news and make it sound like sex. I am magical in the classroom and unstoppable in bed. My fingers are like divining [...]

When We’re Dangerous Like This

It’s that way that he – daaamn – leans against that wall, looking like a fight just desperate to jump ya with his button fly jeans, old friends that know how to hug him just right, with that grease stain on the side that reminds me where his mind likes to stay and his no [...]

Then let us kiss all day, until the sun hangs heavy and low,
and when the dusk succumbs to the dark desires of our Lady Moon,
lying down to suckle at her breast,
I will kiss you still,
as the stars burn bright in the darkness,
lest some of your sweet kisses
slip off
into the night

We dressed quickly,
pants grabbed in darkness,
mismatched shoes,
the shirt that smelled like last night’s dinner,
lips chapped and crusty,
.
and ran outside, together,
through the sprinklers that keep the fields wet
and muddy
for Saturday soccer games,
and past the graveyard gates,
lit up like they were expecting
company.
.
Your fingers were cool in my palm
as my feet hit the asphalt, thinking
I could run a [...]
A Moment Together

Kyle wrote this poem for me Monday night because he was missing being close…it was so evocative that when I read it, the lines in blue flowed into my head and we agreed that they fit together like two sides of a conversation. Writing like this has become a wonderful way for us to [...]
My life has tumbled

My life has tumbled away from me,
decided by sinister phone calls,
capricious choices,
made by men
who think in votes and not in futures.
By a picture taken out of context,
and a truth that is falsely used
to build a tragic story
not unlike reality,
but looking nothing like the truth.
There is no prize for the victims,
no justice, no win,
except [...]

In honor of National Coming Out Day, I’d like to re-post one of my favorite poems. It came tumbling out of me after my first trip to visit Kyle – a single answer to so many questions that were swirling in my head.
And, since it is National Coming Out Day…in case it wasn’t obvious [...]

Yesterday morning, I woke up with my head full of poetry. In my dream, someone had told it to me, and I was trying to remember it so I could write it down when I woke up (lately I’ve been so tired I can only dream half-lucidly – I know I’m dreaming but I don’t [...]

She was beautiful and fierce, soulful and sexy
singing truths with a smile and a growl that made grown women
fall to their knees in prayer.
Eyes full of fiery protest, deep and intense, yours for a moment
then looking away, as if afraid you (or she) couldn’t bear more.
She, with glossy, thick black hair that said, “I am [...]
